Osun Governorship Election: Adeleke Maintains Strong Lead as INEC Collates Results

The 2026 Osun State governorship election has entered a crucial stage as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues the collation of results from Saturday’s election across the state.

Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has maintained a strong lead over his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the latest provisional results reported during the ongoing collation exercise.

The election was held on Saturday, August 15, across Osun State, with voters choosing among candidates contesting for the governorship.

Adeleke Maintains Lead

Results uploaded to INEC’s Result Viewing Portal showed Adeleke ahead of Oyebamiji as the collation progressed.

The latest reports indicated that results from 331 of the state’s 332 wards had been reported, while more than 93 per cent of polling-unit results had been captured on the portal.

Adeleke’s lead had also extended to more than 80,000 votes in the provisional aggregation reported by Arise News as collation continued.

The incumbent’s performance has been particularly strong across several local government areas, while Oyebamiji has also secured victories in a number of areas.

Adeleke Wins 19 LGAs, Oyebamiji Takes 11

Results announced during the collation showed Adeleke recording the highest number of votes in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji led in the remaining 11 LGAs.

The distribution gives Adeleke a significant advantage as INEC moves toward completing the final stages of the collation process.

However, the number of LGAs won by a candidate alone does not constitute the final declaration. The Returning Officer must consider the complete results and formally declare the winner in accordance with the electoral process.

Election Conduct and Reported Incidents

The election was largely peaceful in many parts of the state, although there were reports of isolated incidents, including allegations of intimidation, vote buying and disruption at some locations.

There were also reports of violence around a collation centre in Osogbo, where gunmen were alleged to have disrupted the process. Other concerns raised during the election included reported difficulties with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in some polling units.

Election observers and other stakeholders are expected to continue monitoring the process as INEC concludes the collation and declaration.

Final Declaration Remains Key

While the available results put Adeleke in a strong position, INEC’s official declaration remains the authoritative confirmation of the winner.
